Suites Between Two Beaches on Syros Island in the Cyclades

Set in quiet surroundings at the coastal settlement of Megas Gialos, nothing is too far away from Hideaway Suites to enjoy in a day. Popular for its easy access and protection from the winds, the namesake beach of Megas Gialos is a stone's throw away. Offering a long stretch of sandy shore and calm waters, the beach is one of the largest on Syros and is favored for its perfect for swimming and other water activities. Ideal for those looking for a relaxing day by the sea, it is organized with sunbeds and umbrellas. Alternatively, a short stroll down leads to the small beach of Ampela. Agathopes, the most popular beach on Syros is only a 5-minute drive away. Offering a blend of laid-back elegance and vibrant social energy, Agathopes offers a high-end beach experience with posh sunbeds and umbrellas, an upscale beach venue, restaurants and tavernas. A 2-minute drive leads to the smaller beach of Komito which is relatively organized with umbrellas and a beach bar. In close proximity, the seaside village of Finikas boasts a long, sandy, partly organized beach, tavernas and restaurants and a small boat marina, making it a popular destination for sailing enthusiasts. Further south, the beach of Galissas features an extensive sandy shoreline and shallow waters. The beach is well-equipped with sunbeds, umbrellas and water sports facilities. The village of Galissas offers additional amenities, including restaurants and tavernas, cafes and shops. Located on the western coast of Syros, Kini is a village with a long, sandy beach lined with charming seafront taverns and restaurants. It is popular for its stunning sunsets, the two adjacent beaches of Lotos and Delphini and its dock for small boats that can take you to explore hidden coves and remote and unspoiled beach beaches.

The one and only urban beach of the island is located in the Vaporia district of Hermoupolis. Set against the glorious backdrop of the Neoclassical Vaporia district, Asteria Beach is a hot spot for both locals and visitors featuring platforms with ladders that provide easy access to the crystal-clear waters of the Aegean Sea and a popular all day cafe/restaurant. Conveniently situated just a short drive from the capital town are the beaches of Azolimnos and Vari, both sandy with shallow waters, organized with sunbeds and umbrellas, and nearby tavernas they are ideal for families and swimmers.

The jewel in the crown of Syros is its capital. Hermoupolis was founded during the Greek Revolution against Ottoman occupation, when Syros became a sanctuary for persecuted Greeks. The newcomers created and transformed their town into a major crossroads for international commerce, linking the West and East. The affluent and cultured residents of Hermoupolis commissioned Europe's finest architects to create a town that celebrated artistic and neoclassical architectural beauty. The result is a marvel of romantic neoclassicism in the heart of the Aegean, featuring magnificent buildings with marble fittings, stunning mansions with imposing pediments, stately houses with ornate corbels, splendid public buildings, and an excellent urban design. Among the highlights are the magnificent Town Hall of Hermoupolis, the Municipal Theater of Apollo, the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, the Vaporia district where magnificent neoclassical mansions rise above the sea as if ready to set sail.

Another key attraction of your Syros tour is Ano Syros. Perched on the hill next to Hermoupolis, Ano Syros is a Cycladic citadel from the late Byzantine era. A maze of closely-knit small houses, narrow cobbled streets, and covered passageways that ascend to the pinnacle where the Catholic Cathedral of Saint George stands majestically.

Whether wandering through bustling streets or lounging by the seaside, Syros enchants with its timeless allure. As you reflect on your time here, the island's harmonious mix of glamour and laid-back vibe will surely leave a lasting impression, beckoning you to return.
